Caramel Brownies…you know you want some

Now, I’m not much of a cook. My cooking expertise is pretty much limited to Top Ramen, spaghetti, and hot dogs. However, I do like to think that I can whip up some decent bakery items…so for the Cooking Show Assignment, I decided to do my favorite brownie recipe, one that I stumbled upon online a year or so ago. The recipe proved to be a simple one that yielded delicious brownies. Since then I have made them many times for myself, family, and for bake sales hosted by my rugby team. They have been well received on all of these occasions! Here is the original page where I found the recipe; I’m also going to paste the ingredients and method here:

  • 1 pkg. (18.25 oz.) chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup chopped nuts ( Optional )
  • 1 cup Evaporated Milk
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, melted
  • 35 (10-oz. pkg.) caramels, unwrapped
  • 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels

  1. Preheat oven to 350º F
  2. Mix 2/3 cup of evaporated milk, butter, and cake mix
  3. Spread half of batter into ungreased 13×9 inch baking pan
  4. Bake for 15 minutes
  5. Heat caramels and 1/3 cup of evaporated milk until melted
  6. Sprinkle morsels over brownie and drizzle with caramel
  7. Spread remaining batter over top
  8. Bake 25-30 minutes

I made the video in iMovie, and the footage was kindly filmed by my sister (she was rewarded with a brownie, don’t worry). I cut away a lot of extraneous footage and sped up some parts so that you wouldn’t have to watch me stir for minutes on end. I used the voiceover tool extensively in this project, to explain what I was doing. I got the music from incompetech, which I decided to try out after hearing the success of my fellow classmates after presentations this week, who used the site for various projects. I selected on a track called “Sunshine, Version 2” that was upbeat but still mellow. It kind of sounds like the music you’d hear in a dental office but I like it.

So here’s the video, hope you enjoy it, and if you make the brownies let me know how they turn out!!
